3 Tips For Brightening Up Your Dark One-Window Bedroom
If you have a dark bedroom with only one window, you may wonder if there is anything you can do to bring a little extra light into the space. If so, use one or more of the following tips for brightening up your bedroom.
Place a Mirror Across from Your Window
One simple thing you can do to add some light to your bedroom is to place a large mirror across from the one window in the room. As the sunlight comes in through the glass, the mirror will reflect it and broadcast it back into the room.
An alternative to using the mirror can be used if the sun does not directly shine into your room. You can also place a bright lamp in front of the mirror. If you wish, you can also place a second mirror across from the first to reflect even more light around the room.
Update Your Window Treatments
Another way you can bring more light into your bedroom is to update your window treatments. If you have dark, heavy curtains, they are only serving to block out any natural light directly or indirectly provided by the sun.
However, even though you want more light, you may also want to maintain the privacy of your bedroom. Fortunately, there are options available that can give you both light and privacy.
For example, you could opt with thinner curtain that are shear or have small cut-out designs in the fabric which can let the light flow through. Or, you could go with a vertical blind with thin holes in the pleats that block out the view while allowing the sun to shine in.
Use Light Colors for Decorations
When trying to brighten up your bedroom, look at the decorations you are using in your room, including the bedspread and throw rugs. If these contain dark colors, they only serve to absorb any light that does make it into your room.
Instead of using dark colors, try using a light blue for your bed linens or bright yellow for a throw rug. These colors not only naturally lighten up a space, but they also reflect light to give your bedroom an airy feeling.
Using the above tips can help you shed a little light into your dark bedroom. For more ideas on treatments for your window that will bring in light while still giving you privacy, seek the advice of a sales representative from a windows store that offers a wide variety of window treatments.
